People going on about the actual personality of the individual are ridiculous. Of course the award is not abut the actually personality, it's about their achievements.
Ryan Giggs would be up for a lifetime achievement award in the future in my books but not for the past year.

It's a bit confusing then when they call it BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
Not sportsperson of the year, not sports achiever of the year, but personality of the year. If they have awarded it to someone for past achievements, then that is wrong too, its meant to be "of the year", not past years.
I think we should march on BBC HQ and demand a full and searching inquiry, or better still just ignore the whole farce.

That's what I did. I like watching Jenson Button drive his F1 car very quickly in the company of lots of other people doing the same, but I have exactly zero interest in watching him hobnobbing with other celebs while wearing a dinner jacket.
