bso's do that already

I'm all for scrutinising shops/manufacturers that try to pull a quick one, but I worry that it'll get hijacked by the snobs. There are some perfectly good starter bikes at not a great deal more than some of the BSOs but much less than the "minimum spend" people often claim.

As the owner of a Halfords bought Raliegh MTB before I bough my road bike I think there is merit on both sides of the argument.

Most of that bike is "OK" but the wheels are a bit flimsy. IMHO that means calling it a MTB is wrong as its not really viable for off road riding. However, it was good enough to give me a taste of cycling so that I knew that I wanted to take it further. I bought it because it was £159, and I thought I could go out now and again with the kids but I would not have bought a £250+ bike.
