To be honest, the camera footage suggests you can see the car pulling out over the tops of the cars, if you'd glanced in that direction... Sitting up in such situations is quite advantageous in this regard. I use secondary brake levers towards middle of handlebars for this purpose, pretty useful in urban traffic where I wont be flying along at 20-30mph (and thus in an aero position) anyway.
