I used to have an old Be-Ro recipe book. By old I mean the oven temperature settings were cool, medium and hot rather than regulo settings. My mate's mother gave it to me when I went to university. Despite the vagueness of the temperature settings, the recipes were a hit and I used to churn out flaky pastry pasties, fruit cakes and the like. Somewhere in the turbulence of house moves as a student and during post student life. I lost the book.

I kept looking on Ebay and the prices were more than a little stupid for the one that I lost.

Yesterday, in Morrisons, I came across the 40th edition on sale for 99p and bought one.

The recipes look ok.

Does anyone have any experience of using the later editions of the recipe book?

PS on Ebay the 40th edition is selling for £2.60

We love the Be-ro book!

Use it all the time. My favourite is the ginger bread (Or Parkin to me!!!)

Hi Vernon,

My wife has one which is only a couple of years old and she and my 12 year old daughter have made loads of the cakes and biscuits out of it with a pretty good success rate. We haven't tried any of the savoury recipes yet, as there is probably only me who is a pie/pasty eater in our house and I have never been bothered enough to make them just for myself.

A fellow Meanwood resident!

Welcome to Cyclechat!

The savoury recipes are the ones that interest me the most.

I too am the only pie eater in our house.

Whereabouts in Meanwood are you?

I'll let you know when I have a pie in the oven

I think it was through my Mum's 1984 edition that I learnt a lot of 'how to cook'. It's still going strong, and I use it quite often. We like the walnut fudge cake, so simple, so fantastic.

I'm going to have to be careful.

I've restricted my pie intake and Be-Ro recipe inspired products might undo the good work.
