Hi all.
Got roped into shopping last night and the good lady got talking so i went wandering and Asda had a rack full of bell cycling stuff.
They had a chain splitter for sale at £3.00 i cannot see it being up to much at that price,Has anyone used one.(Bell used to make good motorcycle gear in the 80's).
Also what is the Bell gear like in general?

have used a couple of bell chains from Asda at £4 and for a basic chain very good along with there cable sets

Not a Bell one, but the one that came in the Aldi/Lidl tool kit I bought ages ago was made of 100% full fat cheese:thumbsdown:

Luckily I've always kept a decent one anyway, but I thought I'd use the cheapo one on one occasion as it was closer to hand.

Won't be using it again, it knackered first use :cursing:

Whilst not endorsing Bell stuff, I have used their cable sets from Asda on a number of bikes without any issues, and likewise the £4 chain. I put a chain on my Son in Law's bike a year ago. He is 18 stone, neglects his bike, it sits in top gear and never changes yet he does 10 miles a day. The Bell chain is still going strong. It only ever gets a drop of oil when I visit them. However I still can't bring myself to fit one on my Trek in place of a KMC. The £4 worries me!

Also got the Lidl toolkit, and i have to say its been good, except the chain splitter, which as you say is full fat cheese.

Buy a decent chain splitter and keep it for life, not just for xmas. ^_^

Hey, Peteaud and smokeysmoo, I'm also a member of the LiDLAldi cheesetool breakers club!

I bought a replacement, a very good one, that cost almost as much as the entire toolkit so, as the other bargain bits and bobs still work I remain a believer in cheap and cheerful. At £3 a shot, it's almost worth trying just to see if it works.

I picked one up the other week, i couldn't resist for 3 quid, tested it out on an old bit of chain and seems OK. Stashed it in the frame bag.

I'll buy one and keep it in the saddle bag.Might never need it but might do one day, and for three quid it would be rude not to get one.
Thanks for all the feedback
