I've just been listening to Pixies' Doolittle and Surfer Rosa and almost any song off those two albums would qualify - particularly 'Hey' and 'Brick is Red'.

Other things that spring to mind randomly include the Stones' 'Connection' off Between the Buttons (an underrated album all round), and 'Swan Swan H' by REM, off Life's Rich Pageant.

'Drivin on 9', from The Breeders' Title TK. Pure world-weary country with a little touch of sleaze.

Sorry if this has been done before... but just rediscovered New Orders "Your Silent Face", on 'Power Corruption and Lies'. A truly beautiful, gentle melody, New Order at their melancholic finest.

What's your hidden gem?
Isn't Leave Me Alone on that album ? Not too shabby a track either.

May I mention a track that I really hate - but it was still the best track this artist made?

Sorry but this puts me off the end of the cool wall (not that I was ever even on it)

OK it is american sugary **** but strangely Isn't She Lovely by stevie wonder was not a single.

Some pub singer had a rip off hit with it IIR.

Still the best he did and odd that he did not put it out.

Wrong on so many counts; It certainly WAS a single (and a big hit to boot) by Stevie Wonder, of that I have zero doubt and no, it absolutely was not anywhere remotely near dreaming distance that it was 'the best track this artist made'. I can only conclude you haven't heard much by the man who is undoubtedly THE greatest living musical artiste.
