Best brake only levers for BB7s

What drop bar brake levers would be a good match for Avid BB7 brakes? To be clear, I mean non-STI, brake only levers. I think, by which I mean I am lead to believe, that the BB7s mechanical advantage is best matched, in Shimano land, to the "old" pre NSSLR standard. Which I guess means there might be lots of old style/retro/used/NOS things to choose from. Ideally I'd like ones where I don't have to mess around putting the cable under the bar wrap.

Especially interesting would be ones with a short/adjustable reach. I have small hands.

I found that using BB7 Mtn with drop bar V-brake levers like the Tektro RL520 was noticeably better than using BB7 Road

Cane Creek SCR-5 levers are your best bet. They’re designed for modern cable pull (like BB7s) and have a short reach adjustment built in. You won’t have to route the cable under the tape.
If you’re hunting used, look for Tektro RL340 levers. They’re common, inexpensive, and have the right pull.

I paid half that a couple of years back, and I have seen them recently for just over £20.
