Best Compact Digital Camera?

Although not a great lover of Canon Cameras on tour I use a Canon IXUS 100. It fits well in a shirt pocket but above all it has an optical viewfinder. I can switch off the screen and have at least a month long battery life. Also for a small compact it performs very well. The downside is that I find the lens a little too contrasty but this can be overcome in editing.

What I would have given for such cameras when I started in photography.
