Best lights for growing baby palm trees indoors, before eventually planting outside. Also thinking about one that'll also give me a tan!

As some of you longer term members might know, I've posted before about my palm tree, or trees until one sadly died. I'm thinking about growing some palms from seeds inside my flat. Obviously with our none tropical climate I'll need some false sunlight to aid growth. I have a question. If I go ahead with my idea, should I buy such as this...

or a UV sun lamp like this? https://uk.ktslighttherapy.com/en-g...-for-home?variant=51548258238748&country=GB&c My thoughts are that if I buy the latter I can do a bit of home tanning as well as helping my palm trees to develop, whereas with the former It would only be useful for the palm trees, not me. My main concern is the cost of running either of such lamps for probably 12 hours a day! How much would either lamp cost to run per hour, I wonder? 🤔

Are you sure they are really for 'Palm Trees?'

Seriously though, good luck with it!

Given how slowly our palm tree seems to grow, it might be easier (and cheaper, once you've taken the 'leccy bills for a few years into account) to bite the bullet and buy one or two plants part grown. That's what we did - waited until the end of season sale at the garden centre and got ourselves a big discount.

Seriously though, I don't know, I just came by to say the above, like the massive eejit I am! :giggle:

I'm looking for some bits for my mini hydroponics kit, and all the websites are promising "discreet" delivery. I only want to grow some salad.

Anyway, don't buy from Temu. Go to a grow shop or garden centre and ask them.

Cordyline australis / cabbage palms are pretty hardy

Forgot to mention ours is a Trachycarpus Fortunae which is pretty hardy - survived last winter no problem without being covered/wrapped up at any point (mind you, we are in Kent so hardly the Arctic).

I have had clients who set up systems for this very purpose.

One was most miffed that the police were not remotely interested in how it worked and just confiscated the plants.
