If you contact a councillor as opposed to the council you get a completely different response because the councillors aren't employed by the council.

They are elected and it's in their interest to make things happen rather than shuffling your request to the bottom of a pile of papers.

So, smart move if you can't get things to happen with FTH or your council.

Good luck with that.

I wrote to my councillor asking him to do something about the traffic speeds on our road.

He wrote back asking what I thought he should do about it.

You've got a crap one - doesn't mean they all are.
If he's as bad as you say maybe he won't get voted in again, which was the point!

Yep...wait until they want to get voted in and mention a few key things that you'd like doing for their vote

Update

Just had a few emails this week about the road:

Just thought I would keep you updated on roads. The highway maintenance plan for 09-10 has just been released and the Old Woking Road is down to be resurfaced during this period. There is a small proviso that this could be subject to change if the allocation for road maintenance varies.
I believe that both sides will be resurfaced- therefore we no longer require evidence from cyclists to forward our cause. However many thanks.
:biggrin:...If they're doing the entire stretch that I'm thinking off I'll be very happy! It might not get done, if there needs to be changes, but hopefully my effort will have paid off!

Shame that I probably won't be using that road much in the future due to possible changes in my holiday job! Oh well!

The last commute before coming back to UNI they had marked the road with spray paint!

.

Quicker still...cut out the middle man and buy a tin of spray paint...it seems to work wonders after a few days down here, they spray the road, and within a few days the paint has turned to tarmac;).

Seriously tho, I wonder what would happen if you did spray them yourself, would the workman just crack on and repair it or is there volumes of red tape stopping them from doing so.

At one stage I was going to buy some paint and do it, along with arrows pointing for people to avoid it...only because of the amount of times some moton honked me for not cycling through meters of pot holes and grooves.
