How do I go about placing a bet on Boonen to win the P-R and Tour of Flanders? I assume you get better odds if you go for an accumulator (can you tell I'm a complete novice at this?).

write it out on the betting slip as follows:
£xx win double Boonen to win P-R and Tour of Flanders.

An alternative (if you`re willing to stake more money) Is two singles and a double.
It`ll cost you three times you`re stake money (three bets instead of one) but you`ll win something if he just wins one event, and if he wins both you`ll get paid out on all three bets.
Hope this helps.

You can either have two singles and a double or straight double. The first is 3 bets so that if he wins the PR and fails in the Flanders you pick up the winnings from the win but lose the other two. If you have a straight double you only pick up if he wins both.

You don't get better odds on a double - the winnings from the first are automatically rolled over onto the second bet at the stated odds - but you can take a price at the time of striking the bet.

Sheva got in before me and explained it better - but you can also have an each way double presumably.

You would indeed. But of course you would take on a much bigger risk.

Personally as a keen gambler I avoid cycling, especially the spring classics. Too many variables. Punctures on the pave etc. I also avoid multiples as the odds against increase much higher than you think. (Try multipling the odds against 2 unlikely events - the odds become miniscule)

The best odds are always on betting exchanges such as Betfair. They haven't got a book on either race yet, but they will.

My advice is not to bet on him to win both. The 2 races are so unpredictable.

I would wait until Betfair open their book on the TDflanders and bet on him.

If he wins put some of your winnings on him to win PR. You'll win less, but if you judge the amount correctly, you won't lose.

Yes - as longers has posted

But the odds are very poor compared to Betfair and other betting exchanges.

5to2 and 11to4 are very low odds indeed in two of the most unpredictable cycle races in the calendar - believe me!

As sheva said earlier, if you want to bet on him winning one or both of the races, you'll have to put on 3 separate bets. I still stick with one bet at a time.

PS I never bet on cycling - too many things can go wrong out of the cyclists' control (think of Hincapie's forks breaking a few years ago)

I stick to tennis and football and keep meticulous records of my bets.

I've made a 5.6% profit on £6700 since Jan 2007.

Not enough to retire on, but better than most invstments in the credit crunch era.

I'm not much of a gambler* but thought the odds seemed low. Betfair only has odds up for Tirreno Adriatico that I could find.

* Fact!

Yeah - better to wait till Betfair do start a book (usually the week before the race)

The odds will be better, or I'll eat my hat
