Big guy takes to his bike once more

But this time he hopes its the start of a longer term love and a way of keeping the fat frame a thing of the past, Its great to join others on the Cyclechat forum, Several years ago at the age of 50 I took to road cycling as a 20+ stone novice and after 6 months training and a lot of support from some great people managed to make the 1000 mile route planned from Lands End to John O'Groats. Without doubt it this was one the the most challenging yet enjoyable things that i have ever done.

Disappointingly, part through illness and part through injury, but most of all through a lack of drive and commitment I have stopped cycling regularly and on has gone the weight and probably a bit more,

Ready to do something about it, I have set a new challenge, Another 1000 mile jaunt, this time from Toulon in France to London via Paris. 8 months of hard training lay ahead and it would be great to share the journey, take advice and learn from others along the way. Essex is far from being the most challenging terrain, and hills are hardly a mountainous challenge, but at the stage I am right now minor incline is all the challenge I need.

I look forward to chatting to many over the forthcoming months. Happy cycling.

I'm steadily losing weight (albeit slowly) but sometimes my biking mojo disappears.
Everyone here has been great supporting me and kicking my a** when needed
Best of luck with your challenge!

Hi Dave and :welcome:.

I hope the training and the challenge go well. Regular updates would be good and it may well inspire others to follow in your tyre tracks.

Thanks for your best wishes. Maybe our paths may cross if I venture to the wilds of Shropshire. My last venture over the Brecon Beacons on a bike really hurt. You have my absolute admiration. Happy cycling.

ScotiaLass Thanks for your best wishes. Maybe our paths may cross if I venture to the wilds of Central Scotland. Serious hills you have my absolute admiration. Berrydale Braze (sooty about the spelling?) has painful memories for me. I am however pleased to say that I made it in one without stopping, but wish I had having reached the summit. Happy cycling.
