Bike Advice... Mine was lost in post!

I ordered a sirrus elite last week, but it got lost in the post! With no more in stock!! Damn!!!!!!

I'm looking at alternatives, as I'd like a bike sooner, rather than later to commute 14 miles a day.

Does anyone have experience of any of the following:

Specialized globe comp
Ridgeback Supernova
Ridgeback flight X3
Genesis Day 03 - though I may be dreaming at this point for this bike...

unfortunately most places seem to be out of stock in XL.

Lost in the post? That's a new one...

I've got a Sirrus Elite and it's a nice bike. You should be able to get one from somewhere, surely. If you hang about until September the 08 models might get cheaper as the new models become available.

I don't buy the 'lost in the post' line either, follow punkypossum's lead and you could get one somewhere else!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Beware........

There is something that says there is a "Reasonable time" that you have to allow for delivery. Most companys will not consider it lost fo r 30 days or similar.

Check that they are accepting its "loss" and that if it turns up in a week or so you can simply return without having to pay for it.

Worst case scenario is to have to pay for this one after you have bought a replacement!

Many websites show that they sell XL, but in reality there not in stock, and specialized have sold out as 2009 stock is due "sometime" between now and next year! I have emailed a fair number of bike shops, all return with the answer - out of stock waiting for 09.

there's a lot to be said for supporting your local lbs (hmm too many 'l's there maybe) you go in, select the bike you want with some professional advice thrown in, try it out, the resident mechanic fettles it, you hand over your cash and ride away. Mail order is fine for books, dvd's and stuff but for something as personal as a bike???
