Need to get a lightweight mountain bike for my grandson, he's on a 14" Apollo with 24" wheels at the moment which is now to small. Been looking at the Spesh Rockhoppers, many versions available, Probably need a slightly bigger frame with 26" wheels maybe?
Your thoughts welcomed (any other lightweight brands also)

If I were you I would forget about any sort of suspension, it only adds to weight and little to comfort unless you are going over seriously rough stuff. How about this:

Or does the really need a MTB? A hybrid will be faster on the road and still be able to tackle off road stuff: http://www.evanscycles.com/products/ridgeback/element-2014-hybrid-bike-ec059641#features
He should be able to hook onto the smallest size.
