Im looking at getting a bike for the missus, this will be her first road bike I'm wondering should i go for a specific ladies bike or will a mens bike be ok as long as i get the right size, she is 5ft 4 ". It has to be a triple and the one we are looking at is the cube peleton 2014 £700, Would it make a difference riding a mans bike.

In a word, no. The only item she might like to change would be the saddle which she might like to swap for a ladies specific one. I am sure @vickster will be along in a minute to give you a full run down!

No, BUT you will likely need to change saddle, stem and potentially bar width. Could cost an extra £100. May even need to change to shorter cranks in the short-medium term

This is coming from a woman who is not exactly petite at 5'10 and *ahem* quite heavy. Despite my size, I need a 38cm handlebar - a 54-56cm men's bike would come usually with a 42-44cm bar

Go for the bike that feels best to her at test ride (bearing in mind some adjustments may still be needed)
