I was going to put this in Stolen Bike, but that is rather like shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted. I just came across Bike Revolution's cycle theft prevention scheme when looking for something else, it looks like an interesting idea and it is relatively cheap, has anyone tried it? If so have you found it useful?

Obviously for it to really work well it needs an interested community to be proactive and make it work. If ever cyclist who has smart phones was all to download the app and then scanned every tagged bike they saw, it could be a very powerful tool, but I don't think that level of community involvement is likely. However, it may be useful in some cases.

What do you think?

It's certainly an interesting idea ... though I don't have a smart phone - I especially like the idea that you could scan bikes... problem is the ones I would want to scan would normally have someone I wouldn't want to challenge sitting on the saddle (whilst riding on the pavement).
