Even though I have lived near Spalding for nearly 25 years, I have yet to discover any decent bike routes. Up till now I have been too busy with kids and family life but now I am finally planning some rides out for next year (from a couple of hours to up to a day long or maybe overnight). I was wondering if I have overlooked any routes near Spalding? Has anyone done any good cycling around this area and if so, could you maybe tell me a little about the route?
Thanks

Our "Holland Hundred" ride passed through Spalding. We stopped for refreshment at the micro pub off the west end of the marketplace. The route we took through the town wasn't bad. Route map is online at http://cycle.travel/map/journey/14880

On that route, the B road at Surfleet wasn't very nice. The cycle track alongside the B road through Kirton stopped and started without warning (or dropped kerbs) and probably wasn't worth using - the cycle lane north of it was very narrow too. The turn on the Wyberton side of the A16 Toucan was so tight that I think one of our group crashed on it. That's about the sum total of the problems on that route, which isn't bad for 100 miles with about 80 of new-to-me roads.

Spalding Pedals might know more. 01775 722050. I can't find a website.

Thanks for that @mjray. The problems sound about right around this area. Nobody killed by a tractor by any chance? I will peruse the route although unlikely I;ll do the hundred miles.

I didn't expect you to but the routes we took into and out of Spalding are closed to motorists so might be useful. I'll post on CC the next time we ride the route, if you'd like to join us for all or part but it will be next spring at soonest else the daylight runs out before we finish.

Rutland Water is 25 miles away and it is all pretty quiet roads until you get to Rutland Water itself, for a full days riding you could continue until you hit Leicester, again once out of Oakham the roads are nice and quiet until you hit Leicester.

New member, apologies for a thread resurrection. I'm sure you've found a few by now.

There's a few great routes to get you away from the flatlands. I work just into east Northants and ride regularly in season from Deeping st James. Getting out to the villages around stamford/Rutland is a nice ride out.

Head out of Spalding through Tongue end to Langtoft. Through Stowe, Greatford to Belmesthorpe.
Into Stamford, up Tinwell through Ketton (you can lose a couple of miles and use an unmade road from Ketton too) to South Luffenham. Cross the A47 from Barrowden lane to Barrowden. From here you can go to Wakerley then on to Fineshade wood for a pit stop at the Cafe or carry on out through Seaton and harringworth. On to uppingham heading out through uppingham to Tugby for a stop at Cafe Ventoux. From here you will head out for 2 serious climbs for a few dweller. Through Launde Abbey on to Oakham. Oakham to Barnsdale(turn off here to avoid the main road) on through Empingham back in to stamford to retrace back via the first villages.
All in its a great route to take in some sensible elevation
