Bike suggestions

Hi,
I'm planning on cycling from St Malo to Barcelona and looking for an appropriate bike. Will be travelling with panniers, but relatively lightweight as not camping. I'm thinking a road bike (ie. Boardman road race/sport) with rack fitted later would be best but feeling a little out of my depth! Any suggestions?

You are spot on with a road bike that can take a rear rack & panniers.
Same advice to anyone buying a new bike .... Go ride as many as you can and then decide
