I had my beloved 1998 Stumpjumper nicked from a friend's shed on 1/12/13. The theft was immediately reported to the police, who provided an incident number and took away the shed latch and bike lock for forensics.
I waited two weeks before claiming on my household insurance, hoping that it'd be found.
I made the call a week ago and two phone calls and one email later, it's all been sorted.
No bureaucracy, no quibbling and no excess, because the bike was a named item on the insurance.
How refreshing.
And this is what I'm getting.
Also have an extra £300 to spend. Decided on mudguards and pedals so far.

Santander.
Took out the household insurance with my mortgage many years ago, when they were Abbey National.
In that time I've had to use them three times and each time the experience has been as above.
It's certainly not the cheapest though.
