dunno what it is called but there is some new fangled technology that allows your bike to be tracked. few details I have is that some gps receiver is fitted that broadcasts location of bike so if it is stolen, the police can locate bike.

anyone know wot I am on about? what it is called? used it? how it works? how much?

curious about the last part as surley a savvy thief would be able to find the device and destroy it.

I used to have a similar system on my mobile phone. It would obtain your position via GPS then update a website to show your position to whomever wanted to look. I thought this would be great for MTBing alone. If I felll, got lost etc someone would always know where I was.

However, there were two big problems.
You had to have an internet connection, there isn't a phone signal nevermind a internet connection in some of the remoter places I like to MTB.
The battery life of the phone running all this was rubbish, two hours max.

I suspect you can probably get something like this for a car / motorbike but I would be very surprised if one existing for a bike.

so when your bike gets nicked it'll most likely end up indoors, where a GPS signal will be rendered useless. It can't be hidden too well on a bike as there aren't many places it can go, except inside a tube but then it also needs a user-changeable power supply so...
