I'm not sure whether this is the right place to post but ah well. Basically, I bought an Elite Crono Fluid Elastogel trainer a couple of days ago, but it seems that the quick release spindle doesn't fit with my bike as the external nut catches the frame, also, the thread was too short and the bar too long.

Are there any bike trainers similar to this one that will fit my Carerra Vanquish? I was after a fluid one and prefering a red/black one as i'm a tad obsessive with getting things to match  I've had a look on hundreds of sites and getting all sorts of feedback about each one i've found. Does anyone here have any recommendations?

Thanks.

I've got one of those and have used it with a few different bikes. Are you using the quick release skewer that came with it? I've never had one foul the bike frame when using that because the nuts stand very proud.

Yes I am, my dad was setting it up for me and he was saying that the external nut kept catching on the frame, he was thinking of changing it slightly to remove the nut and to mess round with the bar and spindles too, but we're not sure whether it would work and it would mess up the warranty too

What do you mean when you say bar and spindles?

It should be like this picture here :-

The only place I think it could catch is between this near side of the trainer and the quick release handle.

One thing to check that sometimes goes wrong, though I don't wish to patronise your bike experience, is that the quick release arm is being tightened the right way. Sometimes people will have the arm in the middle whilst tightening the other side of the skewer and then press it in the open direction which can still tighten it, but is not correct.

Well I have no idea XD My dad set it up, I can send you some pictures of it to explain which is what we sent the wiggle guy??
What I do know is that on the quick release assembly thing, theres the eexternal nut, but on my bike, the same thing, has no nut so it fits properly. I'll try the different way of tightening it and hope that works. Thanks for the help.

Right well, I've attached a couple of pictures to show the difference in the quick release assemblys.

That's exactly what I was expecting, but I still don't see how it's going wrong. The skewer is longer on the elite QR because it has to fit different frames but the nut will tighten down still and the extra will pass into the clamp on the trainer.

The way I fit it is to get the non-drive side of the bike, the side with the QR arm on it, lined up with the part of the turbo it fits into. This bit has two little notches cut out to fit where the parts of the arm are, it spins round to line it up.

Then i hold the bike there whilst slowly tightening the other side in until it holds the other nut (on the cassette/drive side) this may have extra skewer sticking out, it does on mine.

Once it's held I then start to tighten, making sure it's straight.

You can see in this picture the groove on the turbo where you line up the arm of the QR. You can spin the grey metal part of the turbo around so that if the arm happens to be the other way you can clunk it in there. I always find it best to have the arm of the QR in plenty of space at the back of the frame, makes it easier to get on and off.

(There's no bike by the way, just the wheel to make it easier to see.)

Once that side is lined up you just turn the wheel until it tightens on the other side, which should fit nicely.

It was a bit dark in the garage, hope you can see it okay. Did any of that help at all?
