It must be spring, I heard people have started planning for Bike Week 2009. If your work place doesn't do anything for Bike Week, maybe this is the time for you to start planning something too...

I will be planning how to avoid it and the six million bikes on the train.

Oops perhaps that wasn't it.What was that thing that happened on the Sunday which made it hard for me to get home?(In London)

My work usually hand out a voucher for a free bacon or sausage butty to anyone cycling in that week. Not sure it encourages any more cyclists or not.

Last year, I cycled in one gate, collecting voucher, cycled round the building and offsite again, then came back via a different gate, collecting a second voucher. I figure 2 buttys a day for a week ought to improve my downhill speed.

(There's also usually a Dr Bike free check over service on site too.)

Would be good if they do this everywhere - i know they did it where we work. They should co-ordinate selling the bike locks from the local police and get in some local bike shops showing off some bikes and really promote it. With nearly 40 new bike owners at work through the cycle scheme in the past 8 months there should be plenty of intrest.

Thinking about it, they also have a time trial up to the Wyche cutting (about 2-2.5 miles with and 600ft of ascent) and last year there was a "north-shore" type track and slow-bike race outside the canteen (which was one by someone who could trackstand indefinitely).

No it has nothing to do with what ever that was, try following the link if you want to know what bike week is all about...

Its a lovely reward though... and anything that makes someone consider giving it a go and finding out whether they could use their bike more either for leisure or commuting is good.

Last year they had Chris Hoy at the Ritz Bar & Grill over the road from work - you could get a free breakfast if you'd cycled in, and you could try and challenge Sir Chris's power output on a bike fixed on a trainer.

I never made it there as I was at work at 6.30am, and the breakfast started at 7.30 or 8, iirc.

Obviously Bike Week's not for the hardcore early-start commuters...

(mind you, there was no veggie breakfast other than orange juice, according to a colleague that went, so I felt a little better that I hadn't gone anyway).
