Went to see Ned Boulting's Bikeology last Wednesday night with the Missus at the Burgess Hall, St Ives.
As Ned said himself, the venue is essentially the foyer of the next door leisure centre.
Not a bad turnout of a few hundred, mostly middle-aged blokes, with better-halves in tow.
I've always thought of Ned as laid-back with the odd witty quip, but in he comes on his Brompton, up on the stage, eyes popping out of his head like a madman.
Maybe he's spent too long with David Millar.
Anyway, off starts ... shout, shout, shout, SHOUT.
Fortunately he quickly developed a (unnoticed) mic problem and my ears stopped bleeding.
The show was a bit up and down with some long drawn out unfunny sections about how, apparently, he doesn't know a bottom bracket from a Sturmey Archer hub.
He clearly fancies himself as a bit of a Dave Gorman, but gurning at your audience becomes a bit tedious after a while.
I think he needs to rebalance with more observational content of what actually goes on in the world of pro-cycling.
After 15-TDFs, I would have thought he would have something more interesting to talk about then "climby" stages, "sprinty" stages, and Chris Froome impressions.
I kept thinking that a double-act with his pal Chris Boardman would be the way to go, in best Scouse - "Calm down Ned, calm down".
Anyway, the last two minutes was a surreal rock opera of Bradley Wiggins' life.
A cock-up of the visuals meant that faint pictures of Brad were obscured by Dave Millar proudly showing off his croch.
I guess that summed-up the evening - worth going for the curiosity factor, but once is definitely enough.
Later in the month apparently Jim 'A Lifetime of being Unfunny" Davidson will be turning-up at £22.50 a go - that makes Bikelogy an absolute bargain.
