Just a little rant. But there are more shocking things happened to others week .Good start to the week was the shredding and exploding front tyre and tube. Then came the demise of a well loved ,twenty years we have been ffriends, garage door. The guiding wires frayed and the door shot up the frame at a very strange angle.A replacement is in excess of £400 and to compound a funny week.A lovely long ride around and around that famous 770 Leeds to Harrogate bus route.A spoke snapped and the back wheel is just slightly bent.So a visit to Edinburgh bicycle shop is on the cards .They say things come in threes.

Garage door - there are companies that will re-thread the wires. We had ours done for a reasonable sum. Have a look in yellow pages.

We had the whole front of our garage replaced along with barge boards, guttering and a garage door for £450.

Get a couple of quotes.

I've been reminded by my wife that a full refurb:

Garage door, side door, replacement front, barge boards and guttering and downpipe was £500.

She should know - she paid the bill

Postman - you can get garage doors off the internet and DIY them for much less than £400! I got a side-hinged Garadoor (a decent make) for £350 and installed it myself. To get a chap out to do it would have cost at least twice that.

It's dead easy to do; just measure your aperture (oh matron!) - if it's a single garage it's probably 7'x7', or something like that, order the door, prop door in place and make sure it's straight and level (nothing a few spacers can't achieve), then drill straight through the frame and into the bricks, hammer in some 180mm frame fixers and screw them in tight.

Job's a good 'un. 1 hour, max. If you can be bothered, you can seal round the door afterwards (I couldn't be bothered!)

Garage doors are by far the easiest of all doors/windows to fit.
