During today' ride to Darlington, I stopped off at Northallerton to but tasty things at Lewis and Cooper, e.g. Bedale and Cotherstone cheese, Bothams pork pies and home brand fruit cake which destroyed a twenty pound note leaving little change. I could never afford to shop their regularly.
It was a hot day so I also bought a bottle of Fentiman's lemonade and sat on a bench in the main street to slowly sip the lemonade and enjoy the break,.
I head some drumming from further up the main street and stood up to see what was going on and to my surprise it was an Ornageman's parade with two marching bands with fifes and drums and one marching band with bagpipes and drums. It was a surreal experience as I'd not connected Northallerton with the Orange order. Furthermore marching season was over.
A quick search on t'Internet tonight reveals that Northallerton is now the location of one of the biggest Orange Lodges in England according to their web site.
Well, I'll go to the foot of our stairs!
