Hi All,

Im looking at getting the Bold as an upgrade on the pearl, and as you are all intellectual and intelligent and respected business people I thought I would ask for advice.

Is it better then the curve and how good is the GPS so that I can use it for my bike rides?

My work Blackberry is a Bold and it's a pretty slick bit of kit. The keyboard is good, a great screen and is much better than my wife's Pearl. However, my work security policy means that the GPS is disabled (as is bluetooth) so I don't know how good it it.

I have one, it's a great phone and with the apps, so much more than just a phone. I take with me when I'm out on the bike but only to use Google maps (with GPS) if I'm unsure of my route, in the same way you might use a printed map. I don't use it as a satnav device though, if that's what you mean?

The Curve doesn't have 3G so if that's important you may want the Bold. Be warned though, battery life on a smartphone isn't anything like as good as a normal Nokia or Sony Ericcson. It'll need charging on a nightly basis.

I've got a Palm Treo - but would love a Palm Pre - too expensive though, so I make do with the one I've got, which does nearly enough. The battery life is probably one of the best around, even with a 2 year old phone. Sorry nothing to do with a Blackberry Bold but thought I'd give a two-pennorth

Prefer my iPhone but battery life similar to scook's experience due to GPS/ roaming load. Apparently the upgraded 3GS is better.

The Samsung smartphones are getting pretty good now too. The Omnia 2 is great, had a play the other day. Am using the Omnia Pro myself as I like buttons more than touch screens....

Just used mine on a (wet) ride this morning with the very good and very free 'sportypal' app - gps route mapping, timing, averages, all the bells and whistles, easily uploadable to their site afterwards.
The WiFi is excellent, lots of apps can and do use it (Opera mini, Beejive IM and so on), so wave goodbye to horrible roaming data charges. Not voice, though - no VOIP.
All sorts of takes on battery life - I've found it pretty good, even with hungry apps - and a lot would appear to depend on the OS version being used. Haven't upgraded the Bold one, but a Curve bought at the same time was a totally different animal after the OS was upgraded, in terms of stability and battery usage.
Anyway. I'm a fan. Enjoy yours if you get one.
