Hi there, just noticed this morning a rather squashed looking bike on the Northside of Blackfriars bridge with some old looking flowers next to it. I guess there was an accident sometime over the past few months. Is there a thread I can read or does anyone know what happened?

I remember reading about an incident in the summer - does this look like it describes what you saw?

Could be, I saw it from slightly side on as I was waiting at the lights to go straight on. There were dead flowers next to it though. I wil try and get a better look tomorrow. Thanks for the link.

Poxy Bridge layout, knew about this and it doesn't surprise me.I cycled down there one Saturday night and there have been five vehicles involved in two accidents on the north side.

style over speed

riding a f**king bike
Cyclistinthecity re-tweeted this a couple of days ago, guess its the same bike:

“@saffronandsalt: There's another squished bicycle on Blackfriars where I left mine 2 months ago. It's not mine. Anyone know about it? @citycyclists”

I believe that was the girl who had a very lucky escape jumping off her bike as a lorry turned left on top of her.

I don't mind the bridge at all, the hardest bit is when your heading home/South across it, is the trying to cross from the lefthand cycle lane to the right lane to turn right further down. Busses are always trying to pullinfront of you then suddenly stop, motorbikes, (which I hate with a vengence), race across the bridge at way over the 20mph limit, so you can check behind you and see it's fine, then when you go to move lanes there is a MB inches away from you.

Slightly off this topic, but I wish something would be done about MB using cycle lanes and the green ASL's. They are there for a reason, safety for cyclists and I guess to slow down the pace of traffic. I agree that it can be good to get those crazy bikers out the way first - if they are in the ASL, but its breaking the law, the law is there for a reason and if you break one then its easier to keep on breaking more as you get the increasing confidence that there is no one there to stop you, which in most cases, there isn't. No police about.

What bridge do you mean here,Blackfriars?

I didn't know it had a twenty miles per hour limit,I know Tower Bridge has.

Waterloo Bridge - is guff also, buses and sometimes cabs pass too close at speed, parked cars at night.Cycling round the Waldorf Hotel is a bundle of laughs.
Tower Bridge - after midnight always seems to be closed.
London Bridge - Think the layout is naff. Both ways.
Southwark Bridge - is ok but I don't know if I like enclosed cycle lanes, although they are there to protect cyclists from the lorries. The route leading to the bridge from Tower Gateway is normal crawling with dodgy lorries.
Westminster Bridge -During the day is crawling with tourists although it's not too bad bridge, the road leading up to it is naff and I don't use it much, unless very early in the morning or perhaps late at night.
Blackfriars - has the crap cycle lane and the north end is a death-trap.(slightly improved for the right turn as it used to be worse)

yep Blackfriers has signs for 20mph, largely ignored. I think the North side seems ok, ah, but i'm not turning right.
