Does anyone else come past here along Shooters Hill Road? Every morning they seem to empty water from a sink bowl across the cycle lane. As you can imagine, in current temperatures it's a bit of an issue.

I do like the tea hut and the fact it's open 31 (24/7) but this is bugging me. I've never bothered to stop and take it up with them yet because I just assume that what they are doing is obviously a problem and all I'll get is a non-sincere apology.

The lesson is surely not to use the cycle lane?

Well if the rest of the cycle lane is fine to cycle on, why should you have to come off of it cause some idiot keeps pouring water on it in sub zero temperatures. If I used it I'd deffinately have a word!

Can you not deviate your route? Go through the park or Royal Hill much nicer than Blackheath Hill which is a little tight for comfort.

Used to go through the park then they put a 20mph limit on it. I don't actually mind Blackheath Hill, I go down the centre with the motorbikes and can get quite a good speed up.

It's just the tea hut that bugs me, I'm sure they are not meant to empty anything at all onto the carriageway even if they walked the 10 yards to the drain

Yes a quiet word would surely be the way... either that or just cycle round the ice...

The 'cycle lane' on my route was full of similar ice patches this morning - caused by people emptying kettles over their cars to defrost the windows.

If you do go tell them, make sure you're wearing your camera so we can all get to enjoy it.

You're just stirring now!! . I'm not wearing my camera at the mo cos all it's picking out is brake lights rather than number plates unfortunately, it'll be back in summer!

a quick call to greenwich environmental health should sort it. its technically an unlicencsed discharge.

I am a massive fan of the tea hut. I last used it on my way to the last FNRTTC when I cycled up to London and it is great value for money. I think a gentle word in their ear, would be better than reporting them. When I was there in the Autumn they had a petition going, as the Council (Lewisham, I think) had been trying to shut them down. It is a crap cycle lane anyway, as it is only about 18 inches wide IIRC.

There's an email contact form on their web site. A politely worded request might help. They're probably not aware that it might be a problem.

Ihave to say I'm a fan too, many a time I've stopped off there when trying to get home at some ridiculous time of night. The cycle path has been improved, they've resurfaced the whole road from there to the bottom of Blackheath Hill and widened the cycle lane. It still drops you in the middle of heavy traffic before the top of the hill though but hey, where's the fun in not playing with the trucks!!

Thanks for that, I was considering the environmental health option but an email sounds better. I'm trying to avoid any cyclist/owner row in front of a load of van drivers....

how massive a fan would you be if you had slipped on the ice formed and broke your Leg/arm/hip/pelvis/ *delete as applicable. we don't have to use cycle lanes remember and the ice patch could grow as they tip more water out.
