Bloke I knew kills a motorcyclist

I've just received news that a bloke whose company I worked for years ago has killed a motorcyclist. It was a small company, everyone socialised together and I knew the guy reasonably well. He was an arse in the way many company directors are arses (all about himself and the money) but even so I am stunned, not to mention appalled, by his reported attitude.

I don’t mind the fact that he’s dead. I don’t know him.

How can people be so f-ing irresponsible? 3 years in prison for someone's life... I'm sure the relatives of the killed motorcyclist would willingly do that time to bring him back.

Yet another ridiculous bit of sentencing. For the level of alcohol in his blood, the sentencing range is 3 - 9 years. For showing zero remorse, not checking on the guy he hit and calling his wife rather than an ambulance, he was rewarded with the lowest sentence in the range

I don't really understand this, I thought the least you could get for manslaughter was 10 years, and because you screwed up with a car not say a big ass drill is it not manslaughter?

Someone my family knew killed an old man out on his bike. He was found guilty of speeding and some minor offence and lost his licence for a while.

When he got it back, he bought a fast car and immediately went out and caused a double fatality by speeding down a country lane and mowing down another old man out with his grandson. The car ended up going through a hedge and was found upside down in the adjacent field.

Not the driver's fault, according to him. He was heard complaining bitterly about how 'unfair' it was when he had his licence taken away from him for a another year or two. "It was the old fool's fault for standing in the road!" (There was no pavement ...)

Yello, I feel for you..

Oh lord, please don't! Sure, I'm shocked by it but the guy was (and is) an arse. I feel more for the biker and his family (being a biker myself and knowing how vulnerable we are).

It is shocking, and Colin J's story is more so, and it is hard to know what to think but I didn't ever find myself feeling overly upset by it.

The only thing I did think was perhaps his initial reactions where due to shock rather than being intentionally callous per se. When I knew him, he was always full of himself, the great 'I am' but not a living embodiment of evil.

If I had been there and knew I'd be able to get away with it, I'd have set about him with a baseball bat and when he asked why, I'd say

'Because Its your fault for being in the way you fool!'.
