Bloody tiling

I've already paid him as the main job was to tile around the bath, that looks ok, I just think he rushed the sink. It's worse because I know him and my brother-in-law has worked with him before as he is a plumber.

Should be easy to apply emotional pressure then without falling out, he'll want both you & your BIL happy, surely? Good luck, that is very poor for a tradesman.

I hate tiling... but I'd still do a better job than that.

My problem is I just get angry and frustrated, and that point I lose all reason. Yes I've used a grout tool before, I am pretty certain I could leave my job in IT and work as an independent tiler if this is the level or workmanship that I would have to attain!

Yes, and I could have, I only paid him because I was not comfortable that I could reach a high level of finish. This was his response when i mentioned the scratched tiles "I want you to be happy so if it mean re doing the mitre il re do it, the scratched tiles aren't my fault but il replace them" I just said that this isn't the point, his job is to make sure that it all looks good at the end.

I did. We've had a larger company do this before in the kitchen and kitchen floor, a big job without issues. The tiler would advise if there were any issues with any tiles before laying.

I only ask, as we had a lot of tiling done in work. Where we supplied the tiles. There were a few with manufacturing defects (area was approximately 750 square meters), notably poor surface finish and faded colours.

The tilers that laid them, just laid them anyway, it must have been clear that they weren't correct. But, also had the attitude of "You supplied the tiles, not my issue, you should have inspected and took it up with retailer"

To be honest when we had the floor and kitchen done I asked them if it would be ok. He even pointed out that some of the tiles were slightly off colour. I do find that some trades people should go to work in a customer services environment and learn how to deal and resolve issues. If I had this approach at work I wouldn't have made it past ten years. But they work on a lot of non repeat work and so can afford to upset a few customers.

We had a lot of work done on the house in 2007,using my redundancy money to pay for it.We had a shower room put in and the bathroom and toilet knocked into one.Our bloke sent us to his mate,we got a small discount.So on go the tiles.After they left that day.I went up to look around,i noticed what i thought was red powder marks on some corners.But i did not touch them.I waited till all was cleaned grouted and shined up.When i looked again,these red powder marks were on the tiles.they were the marks left by the stacking supports during firing.I was not happy,but it would have caused damage to take them out.Now eight years later you don't 'see' them,and just think,What a twat he was for doing that.Would he have liked it had i not paid my bill for his work.No one has every got one over me since.I watch them like a Hawk.
