Heeeeeeelp I have been volunteered to help a friend do up her childs BMX and whe wants the BB, crank and chain replaced and little did I know the new learning experience this would give me

Having got the totally buggered BB off it looked similar to this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320430978410&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

They have told me they want a "3 piece crank" as a replacement and said they like the look of this

Should it be a case that the Winstanleys linked one should be a straight fit or am I missing something as I see a mention of USA type BB and I am not sure what the difference is compared to say a UK or Spanish one ?

Thanks in advance

I'm clueless, but good luck. I was working on my son's BMX bike on Saturday and Sunday and I swear they are harder bikes to work with than a full sized. They seem simple, yet I found it harder to set up the brakes on that than my own bike.

I have the pleasure (ahem) of keeping my lad's and some of his mates' BMX on the road. All of the bikes I've worked on (costing between 200-400 pounds) have a splined BB and three piece cranks rather than the square or hexagonal (!?!?!) one you've linked to, so you may need to investigate a little more.

Also, if you're rebuilding the bike for a BMX obsessed teen, they know what you're fitting and won't let you get away with cheap components.

I've had problems with Winstanleys, but if you do order from them, do it on the phone rather than over the net. Their web site doesn't bear much resemblence to what they actually have in stock in my experience.
