Boardman owners! Photo request

could someone please post a photo of the drive side bb cup and frame? I seem to have a gap between the bb and the frame as if its unscrewing, just want to check instead of taking it to the hell of halfrauds.

The boardmans are notorious for poor quality of finish of their frames, amongst other issues. In my experience the bottom bracket shells are not faced properly before bb's are fitted. this could be you problem.

But never mind, you still have a light, well spec'd bike at a good price, but has a poor frame and build quality and would benefit from a professional putting it right. This of course will cost money. The chances of anyone at halfords even knowing what a bottom bracket facing tool was, let alone knowing how to use it is remote, so to put it right is going to cost. Sorry,but how often do we hear stories like this, halfrauds strike again .

Festival: no more often than Poor LBS experiences.. Everyone seems to want to 'Boardman Bash' but in my opinion you cant really get better value for money across the range.
I don't know how much experience of these bikes you have, but I own two Boardmans which have yet to cause me any problems and have administered two years of C2W schemes through Halfords which have presented no Boardman issues whatsoever. It's purely the fact that they're sold through Halfords that causes any problems that might materialise to be jumped on and used as evidence to slam the shop that everyone loves to hate.
You only have to read practically any Boardman review to realise that you're talking tripe. You really think all these organisations would risk their reputations by giving glowing reviews to substandard products?

No Halfords are not the outlet I would personally choose to buy from, but the product is not at fault. In fact it's that good value that I would buy the Boardmans irrespective of where they're sold.

You hit it on the head there Lejogger, if Boardmans were sold for the same price through an LBS they would surely outsell everything else on the market.


And to the op, as has already been said, it looks like the BB needs facing.

Just another thought, is the gap consistent all the way round?

If it is then it could be something as simple as the cup not being screwed all the way in.

Your right you don't know my experience.
As for halfords, theres nothing to add about them.
It very easy to rubbish something to suit an argument, as you have proved by your comments about me.
I recognise many happy boardman bike owners. I also recognise that many people don't really understand what they are buying into, the quality of ride different models give or recognise whats best for them etc.

I strongly believe people are seduced by the cheap carbon frames on offer at the expensive of what would be more appropriate for them.
They are not rubbish, but Its my guess that for a majority of owners this is the most advanced bike they have owned, just don't think that you have necessarily got the best value for money. That's based on quality of ride, comfort and performance, quality of finish and build which will influence the wear and tear as well as performance and of course you have to consider the on going after sales service from a professional dealer.

You know what, its more important that people are out enjoying riding and while I may have a thing about people finding the right product to reach the right level of performance and fun,some people cant be helped.

Apologies if you took that comment as an insult, I could have phrased it less agressively. I don't regret being riled by your comments however, which on a Boardman post seek to criticise fellow cyclists purchase decisions, and make them feel bad about the equipment they own.

For what its worth... my boardmans has out performed my first bike which was a specialized.. in reliability terms.

My Specialized tricross was purchased from a highly reputable LBS, I had to take it back to them a lot!! to have the bottom bracket replaced and then multiple gear derailier adjustments... they knew me first name terms by the end of if thats how many times i had to go back to them. Now i don't know if that was down to the mechanic doing a bad job setting it up or the bike quality.. but it was a regular monthly (ish) fix that was required a quick touch up of the gears alignments...

my boardmans purchased form halfords... came with a loose bottom bracket... big big error on halfords part - agreed! I took it to another local lbs who tightened it in front of me and gave the rest of the bike a once over... it was all fine... and now almost 1800 miles on ive not had to do a single thing to the bike since apart form the mickle method of chain cleaning... ( ok the cassett and chain might need replacing soon but thats normal) I couldn't be more happier with it!! to this day every gear change has been spot on every time.
