Boardman owners! Photo request

It was cleaned regularly but I did use it and not abuse it I can assure you!

A great bike for starting off into road cycling, I do not regret it one bit. Which leads me to the boardman bashers.. I currently have moved onto a far more expensive Titanium machine but I cannot knock the comp that got me through so many miles.

If you haven't owned one and covered many miles using one then comments like the aforementioned mr festival are just plastic. I don't bash any other brands as I have not tried/used/abused them. Halfords tend to be hit and miss but the odd lbs can have just as poor a reputation, it depends on where you live.

My best mate and cycling buddy has two titanium framed Enigma bikes that cost far and above the price of a Boardman for the frame alone, and wonderful they are too. He's cycled his whole life on a vast array of machines, yet still couldn't stop raving about my Team Carbon when I lent it to him for the weekend a couple of weeks ago.

His exact words to me were... "you see, you don't have to spend a fortune to get a really top piece of kit these days", and that's exactly what it's about. If it wasn't for C2W schemes and brands like Boardman producing superb value for money bikes then there'd be vastly less cyclists out on the roads. Instead we'd be sat on our fat arses, and commuting in our cars, creating more carbon for Mr Festival to breathe in and choke on, while he pootles about on whatever elite machine he owns.

As for halfords, theres nothing to add about them.

Maybe if you explained your problem Boardman bikes, people would take less offence. Currently, all people see is you continually having a pop at Boardman's; a brand which has given and continues to give a large number of people great riding experiences. And I mean continually, I've just had a flick through your posts.

And for what it's worth, my riding experience started 20 years ago at the age of 13. I've been through high(ish) end steel, alu and carbon bikes and bought a Boardman comp 3 years ago as a fast commuter. I simply won't believe anyone that tells me this bike isn't excellent both as a bike and as value for money. This purchase resulted in me buying a Carbon Pro which is equally fantastic. Also, every review I've seen agrees with me.

The boardmans are notorious for poor quality of finish of their frames, amongst other issues. In my experience the bottom bracket shells are not faced properly before bb's are fitted. this could be you problem.

But never mind, you still have a light, well spec'd bike at a good price, but has a poor frame and build quality and would benefit from a professional putting it right. This of course will cost money. The chances of anyone at halfords even knowing what a bottom bracket facing tool was, let alone knowing how to use it is remote, so to put it right is going to cost. Sorry,but how often do we hear stories like this, halfrauds strike again .

If they're notorious for poor quality then I must have missed all the unhappy owners posting on internet cycling forums. Also, if the bottom bracket shells aren't faced properly then surely there'd be loads of problems with prematurely worn out BBs? Again, I must have missed all the unhappy owners posting their complaints on internet cycling forums.


FWIW I don't actually own a Boardman, but nothing I have read would suggest the quality of the finish is any worse than that of mid-priced bikes form the big manufacturers like Specialized, Trek, Giant, etc.

I'd rather be accused of being juvenile than make it absolutely clear on a cycling forum that you consider everyone with a Boardman is clueless and ill advised! Did you really not expect a retort to your patronising attitude?

For the record, I have a Boardman. It's very well made, it's very fast, it is extremely well equipped, and I find it very comfortable. It's components are good quality, they have lasted for two years so far with only a change of tyres. So what qualifies you to tell me, and many other Boardman owners on this site that we have made the wrong choice through a combination of stupidity, ignorance and misdirected hype?

You are getting uptight unnecessary and misinterpreting my words, while i may not be getting my point over as well as i intended, you are interpreting my words incorrectly and i think you know it. if you want to get so worked up about all this then its sad. I am above that , shame you cant be rude to my face then i can have a really good laugh.

I also recognise that many people don't really understand what they are buying into, the quality of ride different models give or recognise whats best for them etc.

I strongly believe people are seduced by the cheap carbon frames on offer at the expensive of what would be more appropriate for them.

Festival, you gloss over the fact that you posted the above sentences. They are, to anybody reading them, patronising, condescending, insulting, pretentious and make you out to be a brand snob.

I take back what I said. I was trying to make you realise that people would not like the way you were spouting your "tripe" as another poster called it.

festival I think what would clear it up properly so we can 'move on', would be to firstly apologise then to post here all the problems that you seen and that you dealt with.

Without some substantial evidence or weight in what you are saying then the percentage of happy boardman owners is crushing the e-forum snob bashers pretend incidents by a hefty margin.
