What do you all think about these body scan things? The LBS do it for £60 where they basically scan my body movements or something to make sure I'm in the right position. Is it necessary or something I can hold off doing whilst I get used to my new bike? Surely they can just fit the pedals and shoes and set me on my way? :girldance:

IMO, no! Not at this stage, because as you acclimatise, you will probably need another fit in a couple of months.

Well for someone who is an experienced rider who is used to riding and won't suffer "newby" issues it might be a good idea to just go ahead with it straight away, but based on your other thread I would guess you will experience some typical "newby" issues and will have to suffer through them 1st.

Yeah it makes more sense to wait especially after the problem I've been having. I'll just ask if I can still go on the turbo trainer after they've fit the pedals to get a feel of un clipping I guess.

if you need it straight away and they want to sell you a bike surely they could offer it for free

I've got the bike already

just go and ride then, save the money for later and if you get really keen put it towards a full bike fit

Sore arse, sore wrists, feeling wobbly, sore palms, aching back, nerves about not being able to touch the ground when on the saddle etc, all things people tend to go through, they usually pass as you get used to riding and if they don't then you can be sure it is a fitting or component choice issue. There is no point in getting a proper fit until you have done some riding and can feedback to the fitter as they make adjustments, in my opinion.

I have never had a pro fit (I had a basic fit when I bought my 1st road bike), I fit myself using a rather elaborate method using a turbo trainer, brightly coloured stickers and a camera (actually 2 cameras) + video analysis software. So my opinion is limited! No doubt someone could fit me better, but I like doing it my way because I can take as long as I want and make incremental changes. I can also make a change then analyse it over a legitimate training session to see any knock on impacts.

When I buy a bike I expect the LBS to hand over something that fits because they know their job. Last bike I bought was from Evans a year ago. I marched in, said I wanted a bike of 'this' frame size. They said, 'oh no you don't, you want that frame size', and y'know what, they were right!

Thank you

I've just spoken to the LBS and told them I don't want the body fit done at the moment as want to get a feel for the bike. I'm so new to it all it's hard to know what is 'normal' to feel after a ride (because I'm new to it) or what is down to the bike being set up wrong.

I thought you meant a whole body scan....
