Scan your PC for a virus.......

Shouldn't switch off, but the basic Windows firewall doesn't stop programs 'going out' - only stops incoming.

Zonealarm is a bit resource hungry, I use the full Suite on my main PC, but I managed to get a free additional year recently...

yeah it kicked inlast night on another machine. i dont know how to get rid of it as it wont allow any software to run like spybot, ccleaner of adaware and avast. format me thinks. backing up data will that not just take the virus with it?
