Mrs P pulled me up today and asked me how i clean our cups, which turned out not to be up to her standards.well it got me thinking what other partners said to their other halves.like Noah's wife,Naamah who said cut the lawn this morning there might be rain tonight.

@postman if my washing up fails my swmbo's eye's it gets given back to me with a stern word or two about why it's being returned , followed by a prompt yes darling

My wife moved in here about 10 years ago because she was ill - we got married a few years later

As a result I have always done most of the cooking and basically everything in the kitchen

recently she has been much better

so she has "been taking more interest"

It is amazing how many things I have been doing wrong for so many years and neither of us have died!!!!

Just been lucky I suppose

Maz has been writing down my recipes for when/if I 'pop my clogs'.....................I keep telling her it's not so much about the ingredients (although they are important) but more about how you cook them that makes all the difference. In one ear and out the other.

It'll be a sad day when the inventor of the cheese and Wotsit sandwich passes.

Oh, this could be such an interesting thread! I think minor irritations with each other in a marriage, especially a long one, are part and parcel of daily life. This is certainly the case in our house. I rather hope other couples find the same. Mrs P and I have differing approaches to this, Mrs P will comment, and frequently does, on many, to my mind tiny insignificant, things I do which irritate her. I genuinely do try to improve. My approach is very different. If Mrs P has a habit that annoys me I simply very quietly put it right.

For example when my wife comes home she will take off her coat and dump this along with any bags somewhere in the back room - this is the first room one enters in our house. It could be on a chair, on the dining table, in the middle of the floor. In the same room is the cupboard where we keep all this stuff. This really irritates me as to put the things away would take no longer. Instead of commenting I quietly put the stuff away - problem solved. Similarly whenever she opens a cupboard the door is left open. I shut the door without comment.

Mrs P takes the opposite approach. Whatever it is there will be a remark. "How many times have I told you not to close the washing machine door?" etc. I do try but often forget! The one which I'll never forget was the small lecture on why my washing out of the used milk bottles wasn't up to scratch................they're always pristine these days.

I'm not allowed to use the washing machine, which suits me fine.

Not quite the same, but my Mum always went on at me about the washing machine, as if using one required some sort of degree, and I don't mean temperaturewise either! 🤦‍♂️🙄😆

Bored? Impossible. You’ve got a bike - if you’re not riding it, you’re cleaning it; if you’re not cleaning it, you’re fixing it; if you’re not fixing it, you’re running around finding the bits to fix it with!
It’ the ‘ennui’, innit? A bit of the old ‘existential dread’? But definitely not ‘bored’.
