Evening all,

My 2009 Focus Cayo has done about 4,000 miles and I am now getting a clicking noise in the exact same place on every downstroke that apparently is a good sign that the BB is on the way out.

Unfortunately it appears that the crankset that comes with it (FSA Gossamer Pro) utilises the MegaExo standard which all seem to be a bit more expensive than the standard Shimano road offerings.

I don't know what size to get either, is there a way I can measure it without physically removing it? Even better it would be if someone actually has experience of this bike and knows already.

Thanks in advance.

Jon.

I would check it's not the pedal threads that are making the clicking sound first. Take the pedals off and re-grease the threads to see if the click is eliminated.

A quick google suggests that FSA GP's are roughly compatible with shimano BB's - so get yourself a cheap 68mm one and give it a try.

Just get yourself a cheapo BB spanner ( £5 ) and away you go.

Cheers everyone, turns out the Gossamer Pro is compatible with Shimano BB cups. Have just ordered an Ultegra BB from CRC for £20, have taken the cranks off easy enough, just need to borrow a BB tool.

Take your time with the BB tool and make sure the teeth are sat in the grooves properly. They can slip out if you are not careful, and the cups are easily scratched.

Softly, softly, catchy monkey as a wise man once said
