OK, the bike is a little over a year old & done nearly 3000 miles.

Noticed there was a roughness & traced it to the BB.

This is what it looked like when I toook it out this morning

I removed the BB on one of my old MTBS a few years ago. I've always opend BBs over a large tub so if anything happens to fall out, i 'might' be able to find it. Anyway, when i removed the non'drive side about a litre of smelly brown water leaked out.
The BB looked just like the one above.

BB's are sealed units so little you can do if the bearings inside are worn/broke. I would clean it off, and refit it to see if its ok. If not, it'll need replacing.

Some people advocate drilling a small hole in the BB shell of your bike, to let any water out, that may get in. I'm not a big fan, but a few reckon its the cure for water in the BB.
