Hello all,

Thinking of installing an alfine hub (yes I know everyone wants a rolhoff) ;) for the winter commute. The question is is an eccentric bottom bracket superior to simply moving the wheel back to tension the chain ?

My enquiries seem to suggest yes , problems with brake position (V brakes) I'm still sure how it works though I think I sort of understand. Anyone ?

Are they reliable (BB's that is or come to think of it anyone with an alfine would be most welcome to comment)

Cheers

I can't comment on Alfines, but to tension the chain on my fixie I move the wheel on the track ends. The difference in wheel position between a slack chain and one that is correct is minimal. I use caliper brakes.

I've got a rohloff with the eccentric BB. Works fine for me. I've not had it long, but it's been reliable so far! Makes fixing a puncture easy, as you don't need to worry about wheel position, it just goes back in where it's supposed to be.
