Hi all,

I have mechanical disc brakes and the rear one is not as effective as it used to be and seems to slip , even under load.
All adjustments are ok and I have fitted and bedded in new pads as well as ensuring the discs are not contaminated.
I have also fitted a new cable on the off chance it was sticking .

At a loss to see what could happening.

Have you adjusted the caliper and any adjustment screws to ensure a close fit to the rotor. On some budget models you sometimes have to accept a bit of rub to get a decent bite, but as you say it was fine before, have you bashed it out of line?

Have the rotors gone smooth/polished? How have you made sure the rotors are uncontaminated? What was your bedding in process?

Looking at the rotor it appears more smooth than normal now that you mention it.

I cleaned them the other day with disc brake cleaner.

Bedded the pads in using harsh braking several times and gently braking whilst descending a hill.

That's a great help and thank you.
Earlier I gave the rotor a quick rub down with fine wire wool which improved things slightly and in the morning I will follow your advice.

Thank you again
