Briefcase style rucsac?

My thoughts are turning back to some commuting/using the bike work work mileage. I often need to be on & off site in my job and in the past used an altura pannier type briefcase. But I'd like to try & aviod having to keep a pannier rack fitted to the bike, so am wondering if there are any briefcase type rucsacs, good enough for holding several A4 size files,plus kipple, but still smart enough to walk into a meeting with.

I'm not after a courier type bag for the last reason, I need something vaguely smart for work reasons.

Any ideas?

Hmm, and bike / work clothes.....

I commute between sites, and use a rucksack, with what I need in good plastic folders - nothing too bulky, but I'm also carrying work clothes and shoes when I do this - get far to sweaty to ride in work stuff.

I assume you are riding in work stuff...

Places like John Lewis usually have things like laptop backpacks in the travel section

I have a rucksack I got from e-bags in November(I think they went bust since, but US site still operating) called the 'downloader'. The laptop bit was a seperate zip compartment at the back(closest to your back) and had a padded briefcase style laptop bag inside. I actually use this all the time and either put it in a pannier or in the rucksack.

Unfortuantely, yes. My actual commute is only a mile or so, so no problems with that, but the off site stuff can be considerably longer.

The idea of a rucsac style laptop case is interesting, and needs a good looking at I think.
