Twenty or so years ago I visited the British Engineerium aka Brighton and Hove Engineerium in Brighton and have been meaning to pay a return visit. This was frustrated by the closure of the place in 2006 and the entire contents put up for sale by auction. I was mightily upset and abandoned all notions of ever being able to see the amazing contents again.
Fast forward to tonight when I discovered that, at the last minute, literally an hour or so before the auction started, a local man bought the building and its contents, vowed to keep the collection together and re-open the place in 2013/14 after extensive refurbishment.
The museum is having an open day Oct 28th.
Travelodge booked, open day visit is a certainty with supllementary visits to Amberley Chalk Pits Museum and the Engine Shed model railway shop at Ford. It's going to be a great weekend.
