Bristol to Birmingham

Hi
im planning on cycling from Bristol up to the west midlands soon

Can anyone recommend a safe route preferably using riverside routes and canals as i want to avoid roads as much as possible because i will be camping

And at which exit do i leave Bristol to access my route? thanks for any help

Route 41 takes you up towards Gloucester, then heads off towards Coventry, but it looks like there are other routes heading towards Birmingham.
