Cycling home through Oxford last night, I turned right at some lights with about 5 or 6 other cyclist. In order to overtake a couple of bikes in the cycle lane, I stayed out in the road. I was immediately hassled by the driver behind and when he had the space, he went revving past and beeped his horn. To my delight it was a BSM driving instructor.

Predictably I caught up with him at Summertown and had the pleasure of opening his passenger door and enquiring whether he was fit to teach learner drivers. He advised me that I should keep to the left, and told me to shut his f* door, which of course I didn't. I then went to the offside, told him he had just failed his test, and left him in the queue.

You can report them to the DSA who are the governing body. You need the plates, the ADI number on the windscreen and a basic description of the driver (incase they have leant the car out and not removed the ADI badge - similar law to L Plates I think, could be wrong)

Had similar last summer, racing uphill at about 15mph between a narrow gap o parked cars and this messed up little hatchback from Pam's Driving School nearly had me off overtaking to get something like 20ft to a red light. I was a bit p***sed off by it and politely spoke in his window about whether he thought that was safe to do. He got all shirty (funny really, he'd been playing with a blue tooth earset as he overtook) saying it was law for me to keep the left at all times etc etc.

Tried to report him but didnt have his ADI, so the DSA would do nothing.

If you report it don't expect anything from BSM, as the instructors are franchised they will not bother to to do anything.

I found this out when I was overtaken on a double blind bend at 40+mph, gave time, place, part of number plate etc(last 3 letters), and was told they could not trace the instructor straight.

Exactly what the DSA said to me. Its a cop-out really isnt it.

"Whats that Mr Cyclist..? You dont have any bodily fluids or DNA from the driver..? Sorry we cant help."

Mind you, reading elsewhere online a couple of forum posts from driving instructors it seems they're pretty over saturated as a profession. Some are even struggling to make an income.
