I didn't ask for it, I have no need for it, why won't it go away?

BT Openzone has suddenly appeared in the wifi settings on my iphone when I use it in the house.

It was set (on it's own) to be ready and available if I used the internet or email. I've disabled it as much as I can but is there any way to remove it as I have wifi in the house and also an on-line allowance with the phone tarrif so I won't need it at home.

Flippin' cheek!

It would never happen with an HTC Desire. ;)

As part of the BT Vision package, a small amount of bandwidth is allocated for other O2\BT customers to use. It is open WiFi, but only if you are O2 or BT... I am guessing that if you aren't a BT Vision customer, then it is one of your neighbours.

As I walk around Notts (with my Desire;)) I can pick up many BT Openzone networks that I would like to use, but when I try and connect to them all I get is a web page...but then I am NOT a BT\O2 customer.

I quite like the idea of BT creating a network of free open wifi connections for their customers to use all across the country. Shame I can't use it.

I've just noticed one of these near my workplace, same result as mentioned earlier though, I get a holding page telling me how much the service costs, 3 quid for an hour!

Settings/Wifi Click on arrow next to BTOpenzone. A new window opens with a big "Forget this Network button" at the top.

At UNI I always used to get that and it would really annoy me. Especially as the phone had free internet. I then looked in the WiFi settings and just connected to the UNI network and it stopped bothering me.

I did find it annoying that the phone didn't have an option to use the sim card, over wi fi for internet though...had I not been able to get the uni wi fi I'd of had to turned the wi fi bit off, etc, = pain!

Can't help but feel there is some confusion amongst users on this. As I post I can see three secured networks, BTfon and BTopenzone all available to use. The last two are free to BT broadband customers and are very useful meaning one can generally pick up free wi fi anywhere. I even had free wi fi in France this summer via BT's international partnerships.

I have my iPhone set to connect with a number of different secured connections, five in total, and wherever I am it seamlessly connects without any user action. If none of these available it offers any available connection including BT options.

Thomas my IPhone always connects automatically via the sim card if there is no wi fi available. Why would you want to use the sim when wi fi is souch faster?
