Hi, Im looking to switch to BT with their infinity broadband with Vision TV.

Thing is, theres £75 activation (£50 internet, £25 TV) which is alot considering I wont be saving anything.

I have done an online chat and they seen adamant * that these chargs have to be paid.

Has anyone got away without paying these extra charges?

The £50 is a standard fee to cover the engineer connecting you and the BT Openreach modem/new faceplate.

Im assuming you're on standard filtered DSL currently?

Plusnet are doing free installation on their fibre & six months half price when you take their phone service as well (and that's the same price as fibre on its own). Just arranged to switch from O2 today. No TV service, but getting a YouView box or other PVR yourself, if you want one, could work out cheaper anyway. Unlimited service £19.99 (and that's the full up to 76Mb version), BT's unlimited services are £23 (38Mb) and £26 (76). Line rental also cheaper than BT.
And who owns Plusnet?....BT. Go figure!
Have a look at Quidco- I'll get £38 cashback because I signed up through them, there's a BT deal giving up to £110 back but it expires in a couple of days.

Im on virgin at the moment, but do have an old (REALLY old) BT phoneline to the house.

Is the line still active? If they do not have to install this equipment and are simply enabling the line you could argue your worth to get a discount.

Please don't use BT - if they are useless enough to charge you to switch to them then really!
You will be funding the horrid adverts with the students.

Check out Zen.. They are worth whatever it is more.

Agree the smaller ISP's like Zen and IDNet (who I work for) generally offer a much better service (less network congestion) and have non script reading humans living and working in the UK. Costs a bit more but can be a lot less frustrating.

Definately wouldn't switch from Virgin unless BT offer you a much better deal and pay the transfer costs. BT's TV service isn't that much different than you can get on Freeview [Youview] and/or Freesat [Freetime] without paying a subscription.
