Budget Beginner Road Bike

I'm looking to get on the road bike ladder but don't have much of a budget at this point - £300 being the top end of that budget. Through the various searches I've done I've narrowed down to the following bikes, but lack the knowledge to move forward without advice!

I'm aware of the following that the Triban 3 Red has but after doing some searches It appears highly unlikely I'd be able to source one of those in an appropriate size. I'll mainly be using whichever bike I end up buying for short-medium distance commuting and leisure riding.

Would be a good idea to try and find a used one.

Reason being it will either go two ways:

1/ You like it and end up wanting to upgrade.
2/You don't like it that much and end up selling or not using it.

I bought a Triban 3 over a year ago, sold it, got a bit better and now a much better bike. Expensive! Wish I just bough a decent used one.
