hello! I’m looking to buy a bike for an upcoming iron man 70.3, as well as general riding/training. i’ve looked at a specialized roubaix (2006-2008) for $750CAD, however I recently came across this Specialized Allez Elite (2011). I was wondering if i could get some opinions from more qualified people on the internet regarding these choices?

Pictures and description of the Allez Elite have been attached. Thanks in advance!

Hard to make a comparison or give advice without the details of the Roubaix, but the Allez looks in good nick, how much is it going for?

Those older shifters, the type with the cable exiting from the side at the top, are prone to wear and can’t be serviced. Be sure they are working perfectly before you buy as a set of something to replace them will cost a tidy sum on their own. If they are gummed up from sitting too long I’d also give it a pass, we get them through the shop like that and sometimes you can flush them out and get them to work again but often you can’t. I’ve seen these bikes parked due to the price of shifters.

there’s a lot on the market right now. The shop I work at is discounting new stuff pretty heavily and that should drive used bike prices down as well. I see you are pricing in CAD so I assume you and I are on the western side of the pond.
