Buying advise for my 12 year old boy

I'm currently torn between bikes as a Xmas present for my 12 year old son but I've got it down to a choice of 2. Any thoughts or help as to which is best would be brilliant.

They both look good. The Giant has a bit more suspension travel and lower available gearing. The Ridgebacks' gearing seems higher than normal for an MTB.

Two different wheel sizes there. Depending on his size, he may struggle on the Giant, which is 650b, rather than 26".
