After months of hesitating, work has finally decided not to implement Cycle to Work.

I was all prepared to by a geared Roadrat with drops £1050, that is now a distant dream, as is any hope of buying a steel bike.

My new budget is about £450 and I want a fast commuter with guards and racks. There are no road bikes in that price range, so I have been looking at a Scott Sub 30 Classic or a Pinnacle Borealis 2.

All suggestions welcome.

Personally, I really like the look of the Scott Sub's...they were on my list as an urban commuter, until I crazily thought/got persuaded that a custom FIXED would be the answer - PS and it is..... just that it's "different" to ride...love it though.

Scott Sub's do look wicked - get a damn good lock for one though.

" FIXED" puts me off - I need the security blanket of a granny gear!

Second hand?

That said I've been looking for the same thing for about 6 months without success. Yet.

I just got my Trek 7.3 FX for £450, with mudguards and a rack, its a nice fast bike, I really enjoyed taking out for a ride yesterday. It's a lot less effort than my old bike.
